This is a great concept for the (Sub)Urban farmer. I've had one for quite a few years. These are the reasons I like it.
1) Evens out the water issue. If it rains, it is self watered and allows the excess to flow out. When forgotten, it holds 3 gallons of water that the plants access without harm of root rot.
2) No nematode or mole issues to deal with.
3) I recycle my old soil through the composter (the landscape one) and replace with fresh potting soil once a year (give or take).
4) It was invented by a Floridian.
5) Move it around to your heart's content.
I just ordered a few more for the new blueberries. This will allow me to control the acid level of the soil.
