JamaicanTalls
Went and trimmed up some of the frond from the Jamaican Talls. They are beautiful in the setting sunlight, loaded up with nuts. I have a theory that my trees may be resistant to Lethal Yellowing. The grandmother tree lived in Hialeah for over 40 years with L.Y. all around. Hurricane Andrew brought her down. My dad tossed a couple of her nuts under the ferns where they sprouted. When I moved to Miami Springs I brought 3 of her daughters with me. L.Y. has continued to make its sinister rounds and yet (thankfully) mine remain unaffected. The granddaughters are now sprouting vigorously. I have been trying to pass them out as much as possible (with no promises). My prayers are that it is a strain that seems to be a bit resistant. Maybe we can see this beautiful trees grace the Miami landscape again. I am also now interested in learning how to harvest my nuts for personal use. Yum....coconut fried shrimp, fruit salad w/ shaved coconut, rice and bean with coconut milk Jamaican style ( I just got to get Catherine's mom to give me that recipe) and never forget coco frio!!!

From your picture, the color of the fruit and the horizontal habit of the fronds makes me suspect that what you have is a Panama Tall - which has some LY resistance. The Jamaica Tall fruit is not so red and the lowest green fronds hang down. Some Panama Tall were imported to Florida from Jamaica in the 1980s.
Thank you for the response. I will look into it, I would love to learn more about them. Thanks!
